In 1995 Jo Schoenmakers and Marjo de Vries decided to co-operate under their initials JAS/MV. Even though both have a background in sculpture/textiles, the material porcelain had their mutual interest. Right from the start they focused on making applied products and searching for the ultimate boundaries of materials. The last couple of years they work on a basic and more autonomous collection. JAS/MV has a great belief in the power of small-scaled studios in Europe and is proud to be working with porcelain themselves.
Many of JAS/MV objects are inspired on nature, as the installation of rabbit pieces shows. The cups are unique in the application of transfers and designs and much stronger than they appear. The layered bowl called ‘rabbit hole’ is part of this series and shows their fantastic skills in working with porcelain.
